1900 ΚΟΥΡΤΙΝΑ

A rectangular cloth. The two longer sides are selvedges: one warp edge is turned and hand stitched; the other end is raw. Red silk floss embroidery on a linen (?) ground. A pattern of large-scale diamonds each containing an identical composite geometric motif, with a smaller diamond at the centre. The embroidery is executed in darning stitch, worked in two opposite directions such that each diamond abutting another appears to be worked in a different shade of red. Small areas embroidered in blue and green floss silk. Narrow border on three sides. Formerly part of a bed curtain panel (?) or a cushion cover (?).
