FRS; archaeologist and traveller; Edward Dodwell (q.v.) was his companion. A large group of 13 sketchbooks and one portfolio of drawings by Gell was bequeathed to the British Museum by the Hon. Richard Keppel Craven, and registered by the Department of Prints and Drawings as 1853,0307.1 to 795. They were transferred to the Greek & Roman Department on 4 February
